Thanksgiving in Cudjoe 2008
My sister Lori came up with the idea to have a Birthday Party for Aunt Gen (the big Nine-Oh). Aunt Gen's birthday fell on Thanksgiving this year. Upon reflection, I thought it might be a good idea to have Aunt Gen visit us at the house in the Keys, and for Lori and her husband Dave to come in from Houston. For good measure, we invited Lori's son Jonathan and his new wife Erika to come as well.
Dave and Lori arrived Tuesday evening in Key West. That afternoon, Cindy met Aunt Gen in Miami and they drove down, arriving rather late and very hungry. I had fixed pasta and garlic shrimp (fresh) and everyone dined well. Jonathan and Erika arrived late Wednesday night (having been tricked by their University president).
The weather was beautiful.
The high points were (Cindy is conspicuously absent in these pictures, since she took them):
Sunset on top of the La Concha Hotel.
Dinner at Blue Heaven in Key West on Wednesday, as we waited for J&E to arrive, which everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy. Dave and Lori were kind enough to treat.
A Thanksgiving Day boating trip as the Turkey rotisseried (kinda).
The Thanksgiving Day feast in which the turkey quit rotating while we were out on the boat, but somehow survived and tasted great. Carving by Dave!
Aunt Gen's Birthday Party with candles in a rum laced pecan pie. Very yummy!
Lori's gift of a T-shirt for Aunt Gen:
We also had a tremendous sea food feast, seafood by Dave, grilling by Rob. I have to say, the lobster, shrimp, stone crab, and grouper were incredibly good.
There were several other events, all of which were enjoyable, but the best thing was sitting around on the screened-in porch and talking with everybody. It was nice to meet Erika. Everyone enjoyed talking to her.
Aunt Gen slept on a cot in the living room, hardly appropriate for the honored guest, but she would have it no other way.
Anyway, a good time was had by all. We're hoping everyone will return soon. Aunt Gen says she had a great time and would like to return.
Yipee!!
