Cottage Winter 2006
I am up in Parry Sound again this winter. I have new X-C skis to try out. Also, this is the first real test of the woodstove. I have noted that the pictures I am taking look an awful lot like last year's. That is because you cannot photograph COLD. It is about 40° F colder this year than last. That is to say that last year it was right around freezing (32° F) and this morning it was -10° F. However, the woodstove is working well and I am quite comfortable.

This is the cottage this year. There is a lot more snow this year.

They failed to plow the road to the cottage so I had to park on Wambazee and haul everything about 100 yards by toboggan.

As I said, it is VERY cold. I have had the woodstove cranked up since I got here. The good news is that it works great and keeps the place warm.

I went X-C skiing on Sunday. Nobody else was out there. I guess it was too cold. I did pretty well for my first time, but every time I went down a hill I fell on my butt. Once I slid about 10 yards in that manner. The tradition of crossing the lake died on its first anniversary. It was either too cold or too windy, or both. Instead I skied up and down Park Road and checked out the other cottages.

Ahhh! I am much better at this. As you can see, when all you have to do is keep warm, you can spend some time on the important aspects of civilization like making sure your beer sleeve matches your outfit.

Shoes by Shepard (Juelane). Cindy's Mom gave me these about three years ago. They are perfect for the cottage in winter.

Shoes by Shepard (Lynn). Cindy's sister Lynn gave me these about 15 years ago. I did not use them that much until now. I keep them at the cottage and pull them on when I run out for firewood, etc. They are very handy.

This is how Cindy wanted the living room arranged. These pictures are to show her what it looks like.

This is the cottage dining room with the table and chairs from Casey Ct.

Every morning I made that traditional Canadian breakfast - Huevos Rancheros. Two corn tortillas, a layer of refried beans, two fried eggs, melted cheese, salsa, taco sauce, and jalapeno peppers. Served with bacon. Yummy!!!!!
